AUSTRIAN RESEARCH CENTRE FOR FORESTS (BFW)

 

The Austrian Research Centre for Forests (BFW) is a multidisciplinary research and training institution of the Austrian Government. It supports the sustainable development of society through the preparation of scientific guidelines and through dissemination of knowledge on the multifunctional use of natural resources. Its research concentrates on sustainable multifunctional use, management and protection of forest ecosystems and catchment areas for drinking water supply, long-term changes in ecosystems and biodiversity conservation and enhancement, protection against natural hazards and geo-risk management. A number of EU research projects in the areas genetics, biogeochemistry, entomology, hazard protection, several COST Actions, and nationally funded projects (Austrian Science Foundation FWF) have been conducted.
