SLOVENIA FOREST SERVICE (SFS)

 

Slovenia Forest Service (SFS) is a public institution, which performs public forestry service in all Slovenian forests, irrespective of ownership. SFS tasks and activities are connected with all field of forest management on national level: from forest management planning, monitoring of the forests, silviculture and forest protection, use of forest technologies, construction and maintenance of forest roads, monitoring of wild animals populations, hunting, to extension service for forest owners, education of different interest groups in forestry, research work, popularization of forests and rural development activities. SFS expertise arises from tradition of sustainable, close to nature and multi-functional approach in Slovenian forestry and SFS long term involvement in processes of forest policies development, based on participatory grounds. Education of forest owners, general public and youth, together with capacity building for SFS staff on the field of knowledge transfer is an important part of SFS tasks. SFS is hierarchically organized in the central unit at state level, 14 regional units, 69 local units at local level and 391 forest districts. SFS also comprises 10 hunting reserves. SFS employs 692 staff.
